OAKVILLE, Napa County — Napa County is continuing long-term monitoring and maintenance of riverbank and habitat work along the nine-mile Napa River corridor running south from Oakville Cross Road toward Oak Knoll Avenue.
The Napa County Flood Control and Water Conservation District’s official monitoring page describes the Oakville-to-Oak Knoll project as an effort to reduce streambank erosion, improve wildlife habitat and reduce the amount of fine sediment moving through the Napa River system.
What work has been done?
The restoration strategy uses riverbank stabilization, selective widening, instream habitat structures and removal or management of invasive plants and plant hosts associated with Pierce’s disease. The county’s page links to its 2025 annual monitoring report, allowing landowners and residents to examine how the restored corridor is performing.
Why monitor after construction?
River channels change during floods and droughts. A restoration project requires continued inspection of vegetation, channel erosion, habitat features and adjacent agricultural land. Maintenance plans should be informed by observed conditions rather than a one-time construction announcement.
Restoration documents do not mean every section of the river is open as a public trail. Much of the corridor crosses private property. Visitors must respect landowner permissions and existing access rules.
For project records, the Flood Control District lists 707-259-8600.
